The spectrum's visible light gray color is caused by a strong absorption edge centered at 0.5 microns. The near-infrared region is dominated by a broad absorption centered near 0.98 microns with a sharp absorption at 1.42 microns and broader absorptions at about 2.2 and 2.34 microns. G. Swayze.
