FORMULA: Mn3Al2(SiO4)3

FORMULA_HTML: Mn3Al2(SiO4)3

COLLECTION_LOCALITY: Ely, Nevada

ORIGINAL_DONOR: Ward Natural Science Collection

CURRENT_SAMPLE_LOCATION: USGS Denver Spectroscopy Laboratory

XRD_ANALYSIS:

40 kV - 30 mA, 7.3-9.5 keV
File: spes480.out, *.mdi (smear mount on quartz plate)
References: Borg and Smith (1969), JCPDS #10354, DHZ, v. 1a (1982), Huebner's reference patterns
Found: Garnet, minor quartz

Comment: Peaks moderately sharp, probably to be interpreted as good crystallinity with a small range of cell dimension (range of composition). The garnet ao=11.55, consistent with (but not proving) spessartine-rich composition. Quartz identification based on only two reflections.
