XRD_ANALYSIS:

40 kV - 30 mA, 6.5-9.5 keV
File: phlog496.out, -.mdi (edge/random mount)
References: Bailey (1988, MSA Reviews 13); Huebner's reference patterns
Found: trioctahedral mica (3T or 1M polytype); very minor calcite.

Comment: Exceptionally sharp reflections suggest excellent crystallinity and compositional heterogeneity. It is difficult or impossible to distinguish 1M and 3T polytypes in powder diffraction patterns; WS-496 seem to match Bailey's 3T reference pattern intensities better than his 1M intensities. WS-496 is definitely not 2M1 polytype. The position of the (060) [or(30-30)] reflection is consistent with endmember phlogopite.
