SAMPLE_DESCRIPTION:
Weathered oil from the Deepwater Horizon spill coating marsh plants. The spectrum is an average of 15 measurements made of oil-coated Spartina alterniflora. The area measured was 60% covered by oiled S. alterniflora, with the underlying flooded marsh containing clumps of oil-water emulsion. The area is adjacent to another measurement of predominantly oiled Juncus roemerianus (Oiled marsh DWO-3-BAT-06). The meaurements were made in the field on August 13, 2010. The reflectance spectrum has absorption features centered near 1.72 and 2.30 microns arising from C-H bonds in weathered oil.
