TITLE: Lodgepole-Pine YNP-LP0-VIG DESCRIPT

DOCUMENTATION_FORMAT: PLANT

SAMPLE_ID: YNP-LP0-VIG

PLANT_TYPE: Pine tree, coniferous evergreen, perennial

PLANT: Lodgepole Pine

LATIN_NAME: Pinus contorta Douglas ex Loudon

COLLECTION_LOCALITY: Southeast of Gardner River and Bunsen Peak in Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming, USA.

ORIGINAL_DONOR: Raymond Kokaly, USGS

SAMPLE_DESCRIPTION:

Averaged spectral reflectance for a regrowing forest of lodgepole pine located located southeast of Gardner River and Bunsen Peak in Yellowstone National Park. This area was burned in 1988.  The pixels used to compute the average are located east of those used to compute the average spectrum for sample YNP-LP0-MOD. The young trees in this area of dense lodgepole regrowth are over 1.5 meters tall.  This forest of lodgepole pine was classified as growth stage LP0 by Despain (1990).  LP0 forests are 0-45 years old and usually consist of recently burned forests where lodgepole pine has recolonized the site but not produced a closed canopy.  This average spectrum was computed from 56 pixels of radiative-transfer-ground-calibrated AVIRIS data.  AVIRIS data were collected on August 6, 1996, at approximately 11:10 am Local Time.  AVIRIS channels 1-4, 32-33, 43, 59-62, 81-84, 95-97, 106-113, 154-167, 173-175, and 222-224 were deleted due to residual atmospheric effects, poor instrument response, and redundancy where detectors overlap.
