SAMPLE_DESCRIPTION:
This sample of lichen was collected from Lime Creek in the San Juan Mountains of Colorado (37 degrees 43 minutes N latitude; 107 degrees 43 minutes W Longitude). The spectrum was measured in the laboratory under a tungsten lamp (directly overhead) with the bare fiber optic head of the ASD FR spectrometer pointed at an approximately 30 degrees off of nadir. Species identification was made by USGS Biologist Larry Gough. The appearance of the lichen was noted as "bright orange" in color with small thalli, covering a small area, tightly appressed, with a waxy surface appearance. The measurement of the lichen was made with it still in place on the surface of a rock (Sample ID = SJ96-ELC).
