SPECTROSCOPIC_DISCUSSION:
A strong absorption edge located at 0.79 microns gives the shake its light brown color. From about 1.1 micron into the near infrared, there are a number of absorptions due to water, lignin, and cellulose typical of wood. G. Swayze.
