SAMPLE_DESCRIPTION:

Average reflectance of a pad of purple prickly pear cactus (Opuntia violacea var. santa-rita) measured in the field using a field spectrometer. The cactus pad was pushed into a nearly horizontal position and the head of the spectrometer (bare fiber optic) was pointed at an approximately 20 degree off-nadir orientation. The spectrometer head was approximately 8 cm from the surface of the pad and was moved around the surface of the cactus pad as the field spectrometer measured the reflectance. This average spectrum was computed from 16 recorded spectra (each recorded spectrum was an average of 60 measurements). The sky was cloud-free during the measurement.
