SPECTROSCOPIC_DISCUSSION: The upturn in the UV may be real or an artifact; additional UV measurements will be needed to confirm if the absorption is real. The main CO3-related absorption in this spectrum is located at 2.3151 microns with a weak shoulder at 2.2977 microns. The longer wavelength shoulder at 2.3480 microns is probably related to trace levels of calcite indicated by the x-ray diffraction analysis. This sample has strong H2O-related features at 1.4434 and 1.9385 microns likely incorpated in the shell material this sample was purified from. G. Swayze.
