Task Objectives

Development of isotope systematics of transition element isotope, e.g., Cu, Fe, Zn, Cr and their application to specific research projects in mineral resources. Development and application of Hg, Cd and Ti isotopes. Development of S isotopes using solutions and laser ablation.

Statement of Work

This year the following isotope systems will be examined: S, Cr, Hf, Cd, U, and Th. For each of these systems appropriate methodologies for element separation will be determined together with optimal instrumental conditions for high precision and accurate isotope measurements. The task will also begin examination of protocols for U-Th-Pb dating using shortlived intermediate isotopes. The task will also begin developing methods for in-situ isotope measurements using laser ablation.
